Malcom Dalglish and the Ooolites

Pleasure

Pleasure cover

Review

Pleasure collects works commissioned for various youth choirs. Malcom Dalgish writes in his liner notes, "The young singers on this record have all traveled by folk song for may years, to many musically powerful places. In September 1997 we came together as a studio ensemble to record two CDs of my folk choir music, Hymnody of Earth and Pleasure. The Ooolites were born. Their sound is extraorinarily fresh and engaging, transporting my music to places I'd only dreamed about." It's an extremely talented group of young singers he's assembled here, imbuing these complex compositions -- many inspired by traditional songs -- with an uplifting, almost angelic air that is, at the same time, full of vigor and campfire warmth. Highly recommended. -- Bryan Baker
