Review

If you are one of the tens of millions of people who have waited in line for an hour to ride Space Mountain at a Disney theme park, think back to what it sounded like as you stood in the queue. There are some very, very low moaning tones (from a pumped-in spacey soundtrack), muffled noises of clanging metal (from the rollercoaster track itself), and the combined mutterings of hundreds of people eager to hurl themselves at terrific speeds through the inky blackness of the void. That sort of unique ambient tapestry is recreated perfectly by C. Reider. Each side of the "Man Hours" cassette is one long piece, the first entitled "Man in a Flying Glasses" and the second "Controlled Hours." Each is richly layered, moody, dark, and downright haunting. "Controlled Hours" is the more industrial of the two, sounding something like the inside of someone's apartment who lives at the base of a giant nuclear power plant that is experiencing some technical difficulties. You already know whether this is for you or not, and if it is, then what are you waiting for? -- Bryan Baker
